Energy Providers Are Helping Communities During The Pandemic
Retail energy providers, either directly or through their parent corporations, have contributed more than $13 million to various COVID-19 relief efforts. American Electric Power (AEP)
American Electric Power (AEP) (which owns AEP Energy) donated “$1.5 million in emergency funds, including nearly $500,000 in Ohio, to support basic human needs and help address the hardships faced by customers and communities.”
Calpine Corporation
Calpine Corporation (which includes subsidiaries Calpine Energy Solutions and Champion Energy Services) “established a community assistance fund to provide help where it is most needed and seeded it with an initial $1 million.”
Direct Energy
Direct Energy pledged “an additional $100,000 to their Neighbor-to-Neighbor bill assistance program to further support relief efforts for Texas Customers.”
Exelon Corporation
The Exelon Corporation (which includes subsidiary Constellation) made donations totaling more than $5 million “nationwide to relief organization support of communities impacted by the spread of the coronavirus.”
IGS Energy
IGS Energy along with other companies matched donations “in support of the United Way of Central Ohio Community Response Fund to help workers and their families during the COVID-19 crisis.”
Nextera Energy
The NextEra Energy family of companies (which includes NextEra Energy Services) committed $1.5 million in COVID-19 emergency assistance “to be distributed to partner organizations on the frontlines supporting the most vulnerable in our communities.”
NRG Energy
NRG Energy, Inc. committed to donating “$2 million in charitable contributions including cash and urgently needed safety equipment supporting first responders, as well as funds that aid local communities and teachers.”
MP Energy
MP Energy (a Shell Energy North America Subsidiary) if offering a free online toolkit for teaching kids about renewable energy.
Vistra Energy
Vistra Energy (which includes TXU Energy, Luminant, Dynegy, and Ambit Energy) donated “$2 million to non-profits and social service agencies, providing direct relief for people with critical needs resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic in the communities it serves.”
